When is Basque cider house season? From mid January to late April, when cider is poured straight from the barrel; outside those months the barrel is gone and the bottle takes over. The denomination admits 115 apple varieties, all of them local, and its cider runs at around 6%. Of its 48 cider makers, only four are in Bizkaia.

Which Bilbao market is open in the afternoon? In August the afternoon session survives in only two of the six, Trauko on weekdays and La Ribera on Fridays, both 17:00 to 20:00. One opens at 7:30, El Ensanche, another at 9:00, Labayru, and Bilbao Zerbitzuak sets them all. None trades on a Sunday.

Nineteen growers, four and a half hectares, and a rulebook that fixes the pepper at 6 to 9 cm and 10 to 12 grams. It is picked green, mainly from April to November, and is usually not hot.

When is La Ribera market open? Monday to Saturday, but every stall sets its own hours, and the gap between them decides your visit: most of the 31 run 08:00 to 14:30. Sixteen open on Friday afternoon and none on Saturday, and on Mondays all eight fish stalls close. The tram stops at Ribera, right outside the door.
